I’m almost ashamed to say it, but sometimes I forget I had the pleasure of seeing Niagara Falls. I forget because our stay in Niagara Falls was literally such a whirlwind. We weren’t even there a full 24 hours. That being said, I am so glad we did get to see the falls… they are absolutely amazing and well worth a trip to see.
After we checked into our hotel, we prepped ourselves for our boat tour of the falls. We booked out trip with Hornblower Niagara Cruises as we were going to be viewing the falls from the Canadian side. If you are in Buffalo and want to check them out, you will be riding on Maid of the Mist. As far as I could tell, the only difference seems to be the color of your poncho… US side you get a blue poncho, Canadian side you get a red one. There may be other more distinguishing features, but I haven’t researched this in depth. We paid $26 CAD for our trip, and it was well worth the cost. I recommend purchasing your tickets prior to arriving. Then if there are long lines to purchase tickets, you are able to bypass those. Also, prepare to get wet. Very, very wet. The falls are incredibly powerful and the spray and mist is out of control. It’s incredible.
Truly, this was a spectacular experience. At first I was disappointed with the falls when viewing them from above. They appeared much smaller and more contained than what I had imagined. However, as soon as you are in that boat approaching the falls and you hear the roar of the water, feel the spray…. you realize just how immensely big they really are.
